There Is No National Dress In Germany. A Traditional form of female dress is a Dirndl. It is a dress with a bodice, apron, and skirt.

Dirndl was worn by servants in the 19th century, and also by working women. The Austrian upper class began wearing Dirndls in the 1870’s, and Dirndls became popular in high fashion. The Traditional men’s dress is the Lederhosen.

Lederhosen are leather breeches that are either above or below the knee. The longer ones are referred to as Bundhosen or Kniebundhosen.
