Visalia is located in the San Joaquin Valley of California, about 200 miles (320 km) south of Sacramento and 150 miles (240 km) north of Los Angeles. It is the county seat of Tulare County. The city of Visalia has an area of 38.3 square miles (100 km²). The city is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, and the Kaweah River runs through the city.
