The National Flag Of Armenia Was Adopted On the 24th of August, 1990. The Flag Of Armenia was designed by Stepan Malkhasyants And Was Adopted by the Armenian Supreme Soviet To be the National Flag of the country. Armenia National Flag in other words Armenian Tricolour has three horizontal bands. These bands of equal width, Red on the top, Blue in the middle, And Orange (also described as “color of apricot”) on the bottom.

Armenia chose colors from the Lusignan period which were red, blue and yellow. Soon yellow was replaced by orange as it better merged with the other two colors. The orange color in the Flag Of Armenia is often called the color of apricot in Armenian, which is one of the most popular fruits in Armenia.

The Meaning of the National Flag Of Armenia colors is interpreted in different ways. Some say that Red signifies the blood of 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide, the Blue color symbolizes the country’s pure sky, while orange represents Armenia’s courage.

History of Armenia’s Flag

During different periods of time, Armenia had various flags. In the late 19th century, Armenian emigrants created several versions of the National Flag Of Armenia in France. The red-green-white flag was used by the Armenian community during Victor Hugo’s funeral in 1885. After the war of 1826-1828, the Khanate of Erivan went from Persia to Russia, and in 1828, according to the Turkmanchy Agreement, Armenian Region was formed in Russia.

On November 29, 1920, the Revolutionary Committee was formed and then Soviet rule was established in Armenia. The next day the Socialist Soviet Republic of Armenia (SSRA) was declared. The Constitution, adopted by the First Session of the Council of Armenia in February 1922, approved the description of Flag Of Armenia. On 24 August 1990 by the Law on the State Flag of the Republic of Armenia the state flag was approved.
