The Flag Was Officially Adopted On 18 October 1817. The flag is also known in Spanish as “La Estrella Solitaria” Which Means “The Lone Star”. It is often claimed that the Chile National Flag was created by José Ignacio Zenteno, a war minister in Bernardo O’Higgins’ 19th-century government, although historians argue that it was Gregorio de Andía y Varela who drew it.

The Red color strip that occupies the bottom half of the flag represents the blood spilled during the struggle for national independence, and the blue square in the top left-hand corner symbolizes Chile´s rich azure sky. The white stripe along the top of the flag represents the snow of the Andes Mountains. The white five-pointed star that sits in the center of the blue square of the National Flag Of Chile represents the unity of the Chilean republic and the powers of the state. Others say it symbolizes a guide to progress and honor.

Chile Flag History:

Prior to the independence of Chile, there were two identifiable flags. One is a supposed flag used by Mapuche troops led by Lautaro at the beginning of the Arauco War which they fought against Spaniards. the flag was blue with a star of eight points called Wünelfe, a Mapuche representation of the planet Venus or the morning star. The second version lasted eight months in 1817 and was designed by Juan Gregorio las Heras. It is called the “transition flag”, and the only difference with the previous Chile National Flag is the replacement of the yellow color by the red color in the lower fringe. The third version of the Flag Of Chile is the current version.
