The National Flag Of Croatia is one of the State Symbols of Croatia And was officially Adopted on December 21, 1990. The Croatia National Flag consists of three equally-wide horizontal lines of red, white and blue. The Flag Was Design By Miroslav Šutej. In the center of the flag, there is a coat of arms representing the regions of Croatia.

The coat of arms has a shield shape and is double-divided horizontally and vertically into twenty-five red and white (silver) fields so that the first field in the upper left corner is red color. Above the main shield, there is a crown with five smaller shields, which are connected to the upper part of the shield. The crown on the Flag Of Croatia has five smaller shields with historical Croatian crowns, which are arranged from left to right on the shield.

 

Meaning Of The Flag

The colors in the flag represent the traditional Croatian colors. The colors of the flag represent red and white for Croatia, white and blue for Slavonia, while red and blue for Dalmatia. The coat of arms in the center of the National Flag Of Croatia is actually made up of a chequered shield with five individual coats of arms of various provinces and towns above it. These provinces are those from which Croatia emerged and formed.

From left to right: A crescent and star mean the oldest known coat of arms for Croatia. Two red stripes on blue represent the coat of arms of Dubrovnik, which exists from when it was the Republic of Ragusa. Three golden lion heads represent the coat of arms of Dalmatia. A golden goat On the Flag Of Croatia represents the coat of arms of Istria And a gold star above a black marten, a weasel-like animal represent the coat of arms of Slavonia.

 

History of the Croatian Flag

Croatia National Flag first appeared in 1848 under the reign of Josip Jelačić. This flag also represented the tripartite kingdom of Dalmatia-Slovenia-Croatia. In 1990 Croatia achieved its independence from Yugoslavia and the Flag Of Croatia is composed of three parallel lines with the colors white, red, and blue.
