The Current Flag Of Libya was Adopted On 3 August 2011. It was originally introduced in 1951, following the creation of the Kingdom of Libya. The National Flag Of Libya was designed by Omar Faiek Shennib. The flag was approved by King Idris Al Senussi who comprised the UN delegation representing the three regions of Cyrenaica, Fezzan, and Tripolitania at UN unification discussions.
Design And Meaning Of The Flag
The Designed Of the Libya National Flag consists of three horizontal bands of red, black and green. The black band is wider than the other two bands (equal in the width of the red and green bands combined). The red and green bands of the flag are equal in width. In the middle of the black band are a white crescent and a five-pointed star. The design of the National Flag Of Libya was based on the banner of the Senussi dynasty from Cyrenaica, which consisted of a black field and star and crescent design, and was later used as the flag of the region.

History Of The Flag
Under Italian colonial rule from 1911 until 1942, Libya had no flag of its own. Subsequently, under British and French administration, only the Union Jack and the French Tricolor were flown. Nevertheless, the Sanūsiyyah (Sennusiya), a powerful Islamic sect, had long displayed flags of black with inscriptions from the Qurʾān. In 1947 the Sanūsī leader became the king of Cyrenaica, which, with Tripolitania and Fezzan, became the United Kingdom of Libya.
