The National Flag Of Malawi was officially adopted On 6 July 1964 when the country became independent from British rule and renamed itself Malawi. The current version of the flag was re-adopted On 29 July 2010, after the Democratic Progressive Party-led government had proposed a new Flag Of Malawi.

Several different flags represented Malawi during the British colonial time. They were all British blue ensigns with the Union Jack in the canton with the colony’s seal. It gained a new seal when it became Nyasaland in 1914 and it remains until the country gained its independence in 1964. Nyasaland became the nation of Malawi when it became independent from Britain, and it adopted the new Malawi National Flag to represent itself.
