The Current National Flag Of Netherlands was officially introduced On February 19, 1937, by Royal Decree. The Flag Of Netherlands comes in three colors. The current design of the flag originates as a variant of the late 16th century orange-white-blue Prinsenvlag (“Prince’s Flag”), evolving in the early 17th century as the red-white-blue Statenvlag (“States Flag”), the naval flag of the States-General of the Dutch Republic, making the Dutch flag perhaps the oldest tricolor flag in continuous use. It has inspired the Russian and French flags.

During the economic crisis of the 1930s, the old Prince’s Flag with the color orange gained some popularity among some people. To end the confusion, the colors red, white and blue and its official status as the Netherlands National Flag were reaffirmed by royal decree.

 

Colors Of The Flag

With the three colors present in the National Flag Of The Netherlands, you can easily set it apart from the rest. Its horizontal fesses are of equal sizes. There is a time when The Netherlands National Flag was composed not of red, white and blue but with orange, white and blue. The orange color present in that flag was associated with Prince William I of Orange, who is a Dutch prince. Prince William, I was able to join the Dutch nationalists in their struggle for freedom from Spain.

After they obtained independence from Spain, the Netherlands created a flag with horizontal colors orange, white and blue.
