Heilongjiang is a province of the People’s Republic of China, located in the northeast of the country. It is the northernmost and easternmost province of the country. Map of Heilongjiang Province covers an area of over 460,000 square kilometers. With a population of over 36.8 million, there are about 35 ethical groups living in Heilongjiang Province. Among Chinese provincial-level administrative divisions, Heilongjiang is the sixth-largest by total area and the 15th-most populous. The capital and the largest city of the province is Harbin.

This province is high in the northwest and low in the southeast and mountains cover 50% of its area. The highest peak is Datudingzi Mountain at 1,690 meters (5,540 ft), located on the border with Jilin province.

The Greater Khingan Range contains China’s largest remaining virgin forest and is an important area for China’s forestry industry. Major rivers are Heilong Jiang River, Nen Jiang River, Songhua Jiang River, and Wusuli Jiang River. The average temperature is around 18C to 23C in July. Winter there is long, cold, and dry. In January, the average temperature is about -31C to -15C, and the record low temperature was -52.3C. The annual average rainfall is 250 to 700 millimeters (9.8 to 27.56 inches).
