National Museum of Qatar | Symbols of Qatar
The National Museum of Qatar is situated in Doha, the capital of Qatar. It gives voice to the unique story of Qatar and its people; from earliest times to the present day and onwards towards the future. Jean Nouvel is the architect of the Museum who got his inspiration from the desert rose crystal, which can be found in Qatar. The National Museum is dedicated to the history of Qatar. The museum opened to the public on 28 March 2019.
The museum makes a dramatic addition to the Doha landscape; with its curved disks, intersections, and cantilevered angles — all inspired by the local desert rose. The exhibits – spread over eleven galleries and across 1.5km of walkways – offer a rich exploration through its three main “chapters”. These are ‘Beginnings’, ‘Life in Qatar’ and ‘The Modern History of Qatar’.

The National Museum of Qatar includes a building in the shape of a desert rose and a 1.2 million ft² landscaped park. The project also includes a 115,000 m² park with an artificial lagoon and parking spaces for 400 vehicles, a 220-seat auditorium, a research center, laboratories, a dedicated food forum, two restaurants, a café, and two museum shops, one for children. These diverse themes and compelling multisensory storytelling techniques ensure an exciting mix of environments for visitors to explore.
