State Motto of Texas
The Official State Motto of Texas is simply “Friendship”. This State Motto was adopted by the forty-first State Legislature in February 1930. Texas State Motto was probably selected because the name Texas, or Tejas, was the Spanish translation of the Caddo Indian word meaning “friends” or “allies.” So Texans’ reputation for friendliness comes not only from the attitude of its citizens but is well-grounded in the history of Texas’ first inhabitants. Before “Friendship” became the official National Motto of Texas, “Remember the Alamo” served as the state’s official motto from 1836 to 1845. This former Texas State Motto is displayed on the state seal and was Cried out by the Texas revolutionaries in the battle at San Jacinto. This San Jacinto Battle was an important battle in Texan history.

- “The Lone Star State”
This State Nickname of Texas can be found on the Texas state flag and on the Texas state seal. This Nickname directly refers to the white star on Texas’ state flag. The flag was adopted in 1845. In the 1830’ies a large white star was used by Texans in the battles between Texas and Mexico. Now the white star signifies Texas’ hard-fought independence from Mexico.
