Ohio is a state located in the East North Central region of the Midwestern United States. Map of Ohio is the 34th largest US state by area with 116,096 km² (44,825 sq mi). With a population of 11.6 million people, Ohio is the 7th most populous, and the 10th most densely populated state. The region was under French authority in the 18th century. They set up trading posts in the region for the purpose of controlling the region. After the French and Indian War in 1754, the French ceded control of Ohio to Great Britain. By the end of the American Revolution, the British conceded their control of the region to the growing United States. Ohio was the 17th state that joined the Union on March 1, 1803.
