What Is The National Language of Ireland?

Irish is the national language and the first official language, with English being the second official language, per Article 8 of the Constitution. In practice, English is what’s spoken and used as the only main language in Ireland.

Most people here know at least a few words of Irish (everyone studies it in school), but not many would speak it even to semi-conversational level.

There are a few small areas of the country, called Gaeltacht, where Irish is spoken day-to-day, but other than that, it’s all English.
