”WHEREAS, the adoption of the State floral emblem by the authority of the general assembly would foster a feeling of pride in our State and stimulate an interest in the history and traditions of the Commonwealth, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the senate, the house of delegated concurring, that the flower commonly known as the American Dogwood (Cornus Florida), is hereby declared to be the floral emblem of the State of Virginia.”

The Virginia’s state flower American dogwood is a plant of small, deciduous flowering tree that growing up to feet tall with graceful branches, which blooms in late spring to early summer with lot of showy flowers. The American dogwood flowers are habitually greenish-white in color but occasionally it may pink or yellow. The dogwood develops red berries in autumn, and the leaves also turn a deep red before falling for winter.
The leaves of American Dogwood are oppositely arranged and oval shaped and eye catching green color but pale green at the underside of the leaf to look, which are grow up to 5 inches long and 2 1/2 inches wide, with short stalks.

The people of Virginia give very much importance to the greeting exchange.
