The gray squirrel is the official state wild game animal of Kentucky. It was entitled to the official state wild game animal of Kentucky on June 13, 1968. The scientific name of the Gray squirrel is Sciurus carolinensis, which is commonly known as Gray squirrel or Eastern Gray squirrel.
