Samuel de Champlain Is The Father of The Nation of France. Quebec City was the first European settlement founded in the St.
Lawrence River area by the french colonist, Samuel de Champlain. Quebec City was the first permanent Colony for Europeans in what was to become Canada.
Aside from the ordinary families in the settlement some of the settlers in New France were soldiers who stayed behind when their military service was over. Since all the settlers were originally from France the common language used in the Colony was French.
