Salem is the capital city of the state of Oregon in the United States. It is located in the Willamette Valley, which is in the western part of Oregon. The city is situated about 47 miles (76 kilometers) south of Portland, the largest city in the state. With a 2023 population of 181,620, it is the 2nd largest city in Oregon and the 144th largest city in the United States.
