The Flag Of Sao Tome and Principe Was Officially Adopted On November 5, 1975. The Sao Tome and Principe flag is consists of three horizontal stripes that alternate between green and yellow that stretch out from a red triangle that is aligned along the flag’s hoist.

History Of The Flag

The Portuguese colonized São Tomé and Prínciple in 1470 and the area adopted the flag of Portugal as the national flag. Four centuries later, the Batepá massacre in 1953 stoked nationalistic sentiment and galvanized a struggle for independence. This was led by the Movement for the Liberation of São Tomé and Príncipe (MLSTP).

When the country was granted independence in 1975 a new Flag Of Sao Tome and Principe was adopted. The new design of the flag was similar to the previous flag of the movement for the Liberation of São Tomé and Prínciple.
