National Flag Of Uzbekistan

The Flag Of Uzbekistan Was Officially Adopted On 8 November 1991. The flag was adopted to replace the flag of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic. It has been the flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan since the country gained independence in that same year.

Uzbekistan was known as the Union Republic and was under Soviet Rule. During this time, The National Flag Of Uzbekistan was designed based on the flag of the Soviet Union. After the nation declared its independence in 1991, the country adopted a new flag.

Design And Meaning Of The Flag

The design of the present Uzbekistan National Flag was partly inspired by the former one. The Flag consists of three horizontal stripes of blue, white and green colors that are separated by two narrower red stripes. The blue stripe on the flag is a traditional symbol of peace and also the symbol of the sky, water, as well as the sign of historical continuity (the flag of Amir Temur’s state was also blue in color).

White color on the Flag Of Uzbekistan is the traditional symbol of peace, moral and spiritual purity, and good luck, as Uzbek people say «Ok yul». The green color on the flag stands for nature, new life and abundance in countries where the majority of its population is Muslims. Two thin red stripes symbolize the power of life. The Crescent on the National Flag Of Uzbekistan is the centuries-old tradition of the people of Uzbekistan and is also one of the main symbols of Islam.

The Crescent moon and stars are also considered a symbol of a cloudless calm sky and peace. There are twelve stars on the Uzbekistan National Flag which stand for a spiritual sign. The stars also signify the historical traditions of the Uzbek people, as well as an ancient solar calendar.
