State Motto Of Wyoming

The Term “Equal Rights” Is The Official State Motto Of Wyoming. The state motto appears on Wyoming’s state seal and state flag. The Wyoming State Motto reflects the attitude and history of the people of the state. Wyoming was the first government in the world to grant women the right to vote, to serve on juries, and to hold public office. The state also led the way by electing the first female public official, appointing the first female justice of the peace, and electing the first female state governor. However, as ‘modern’ the equality thought might seem, it does bear to mention, that the reason behind allowing women to vote was not to benefit women as such but to ensure enough votes so the population requirements for statehood could be met.

 

Wyoming State Nicknames:

 

Whereas there is only one Wyoming state motto, there exist a number of state nicknames for Wyoming:

“Big Wyoming State”

It refers to the fact that Wyoming is the 10th largest state in the Union and is sparsely populated. 

“The Equality State” 

As mentioned above, in 1869 Wyoming was the first state to allow women the right to vote. 

“The Cowboy State” 

The state symbol is a cowboy on a bucking horse. This image has developed into “The Cowboy State”

“The Sagebrush State” 

It refers to the large areas of the state that are covered with this shrub. 

“The Wonderland of America” 

It refers to the many natural wonders of the state and promotes Wyoming tourism.
