Orlando, like other major Sun Belt cities, grew rapidly from the 1960s to the first decade of the twenty-first century. The city is named after Orlando Reeves, a soldier who was killed during the Second Seminole War. Orlando is known as “The City Beautiful,” and the fountain at Lake Eola is its symbol.
