Reno is a city located in the western part of the state of Nevada, United States. It is situated in the Truckee Meadows region, at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The city has a total area of approximately 105 square miles (272 square kilometers). With a 2023 population of 278,577, it is the 4th largest city in Nevada and the 79th largest city in the United States.

Reno’s government is a council-manager system. The city council serves as the legislative branch and the city manager serves as the executive branch. The council is made up of seven members, five of whom are chosen from specific wards and two who are elected at large.

Tourism, gaming, healthcare, and education are among the industries that drive the city’s economy. The University of Nevada, Reno, the Renown Regional Medical Center, and the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino are among the major employers in Reno.

At the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the city is located at a height of around 4,500 feet (1,370 meters). The Truckee River runs through the city, providing inhabitants and visitors with water and leisure. Reno’s climate is semi-arid, with scorching summers and freezing winters. The city receives 7 inches (180 millimeters) of precipitation per year on average, with most of it falling as snow during the winter months.
