National Flag Of Burkina Faso

National Flag Of Burkina Faso

Originally Burkina Faso was called Upper Volta and the First Flag Of Burkina Faso Was Officially Adopted On 4 August 1984. The Burkina Faso Flag is a striking display of red and green. The top half of the flag is a red horizontal band with a green equal-sized horizontal band below. In the center of the National Flag Of Burkina Faso, overlapping where the red and green colors meet, is a small-sized yellow five-pointed star.

The first Burkina Faso National Flag flown officially on the land was the blue-white-red vertical French tricolor as the area was a French Colony that was part of French West Africa between 1919 and 1932. The colony was reinstated in 1947 when Upper Volta became part of the French Union. In 1959 the Republic of Upper Volta became a self-governing colony within the French community. The Flag Of Burkina Faso was changed to a black-white-red horizontal tricolor, which is exactly the same as the abolished flag of the German Empire. A military coup d’état in 1983 brought Thomas Sankara to power and the country was renamed Burkina Faso, the countries name means “land of the honorable men” in Morée. The National Flag Of Burkina Faso changed a red and green horizontal bicolor with a yellow five-pointed star in the center.
