National Flag Of Nicaragua

The National Flag Of Nicaragua was officially Adopted On August 27, 1971. The Flag Of Nicaragua was first used On September 4, 1908, But It Wasn’t Officially Adopted Until Nicaragua was left as an Independent State. The Nicaraguan national flag has three horizontal bands with the national coat of arms centered in the white band.

The white band of the flag represents the territory of Nicaragua as well as its pureness. The two blue bands of the flag signify the two oceans that border Nicaragua. The coat of arms features a triangle encircled by the words REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA on the top and AMERICA CENTRAL on the bottom.

The coat of arms in the white stripe of the National Flag Of Nicaragua is made up of an equilateral triangle that stands for equality. Five volcanoes inside the triangle represent the five parts of the federation. Also inside the triangle is a red Phrygian cap, white rays, and a rainbow. All this is symbolic of liberty and peace.

History Of The Flag

The Flag Of Nicaragua design is inspired by and closely resembles that of the flag used by the former United Provinces of Central America. The design of the country’s flag, however, did undergo several changes since independence.

The flag immediately preceding the current flag was used from 1908 to 1971. This Nicaragua National Flag had slight variations in the design of the Coat of Arms. The flag used in 1823 after the nation’s independence was also quite similar to the current day flag.
