National Flag Of Uganda

National Flag Of Uganda

The National Flag Of Uganda Was Designed and Adopted On 9 October 1962 by Ugandan Minister of Justice Grace Ibingira. The flag was adopted on the day that this African nation gained its independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. The Uganda National Flag is consists of six equal-sized alternating horizontal stripes in the colors black, yellow and red.

The alternating horizontal strips start with black at the top and then follow the pattern of going to yellow, then red, then back, and to black again. In the center of the Flag Of Uganda, a white disc is superimposed and depicts the national symbol, a grey crowned crane, facing the hoist side.

When the Democratic Party of Uganda ruled the country, a design of a flag with vertical stripes of green-blue-green, separated by narrower yellow stripes, and in the center had the silhouette of a yellow crane was proposed. After the party lost the national elections on 25 April 1962 the newly elected Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) rejected the former design and instead proposed the current National Flag Of Uganda.
