National Flag Of Antigua And Barbuda

The National Flag Of Antigua and Barbuda Was Officially Adopted On 27 February 1967. The Flag Was Designed by Mr. Reginald Samuel. In 1966, A national flag design competition was held for the occasion of attaining Independence in Association with Great Britain, in which more than 600 local people entered. The winning design of Flag Of Antigua and Barbuda was put forth by nationally well-known artist and sculptor Sir Reginald Samuel.

The Antigua and Barbuda National Flag design is a red field with an inverted isosceles triangle based on the top edge of the field pointed toward the bottom edge of the field bearing the horizontal tricolor of black, light blue (half-width) and white with the rising sun centered on top of the black band.

Meaning of Symbols and Colors

The color red symbolizes the lifeblood of slave forefathers and the dynamism of the people. Blue represents hope And Black symbolizes the soil and African heritage. The color-triad of yellow, blue and white should promote for tourism: sun, sea, and sand. The “V” formed by the red borders represent: “Victory at last.” The rising sun on the Antigua and Barbuda National Flag symbolizes the dawning of a new era.

In 1994, it was decided that seven full points of the sun should be displayed for many as twenty had sometimes been shown. It has been suggested that these seven points on the National Flag Of Antigua and Barbuda should represent the six parishes plus their sister island, Barbuda, though the designer himself did not have this in mind.
