National Flag Of Cuba

The National Flag Of Cuba was Officially Adopted On May 20, 1902, the day Cuba officially became an independent country. The Cuban flag design was created in June 1849 by Narciso López and put together by Cuban poet Miguel Teurbe Tolón, José Aniceto Iznaga Borrell, his nephew José Maria Sánchez Iznaga, Cirilo Villaverde y Juan Manuel Macías, and swore to fight to the death for Cuban Independence from Spain.

The Flag Of Cuba has the same flag design as the flag of Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican Revolutionary Committee was a pro-independence group that worked under the auspices of the Cuban Revolutionary Party. The Cuban flag consists of 5 alternating stripes. The shape of the Cuba National Flag is rectangular, with three blue stripes and 2 white interspersed. At the hoist is drawn a red equilateral triangle bearing a five-pointed white star: the “Estrella Solitaria” (solitary star).

Symbolism

The Cuba National Flag has 5 alternating stripes. The two white stripes symbolize the purity of the independence struggle. The red triangle represents the blood of those who fought to free the nation. The three blue stripes on the Flag Of Cuba represent the three regions in which the country was divided during the Spanish rule and fought together to free Cuba of the Spanish oppression. These regions were: Oriental, Central, and Occidental.

There is a red equilateral triangle, with a five-pointed white star in its center. When the National Flag Of Cuba is horizontally placed, one of the tips of the star points upward, representing Cuba‘s star rising from a field of blood directing the fight and lighting the road toward its liberty and independence.
