The flag consists of three horizontal stripes – wider crimson stripes are located at the top and at the bottom and narrower white one is in-between. Based on the aforementioned historical record, the present-day Flag Of Latvia was designed by artist Ansis Cīrulis in May 1917. History Of The Flag

The Latvian National Flag is one of the oldest in the world. The National Flag Of Latvia has a long history, as it was first mentioned in the chapters of the Rhymed Chronicle of Livonian in the 13th century. The Latvia National Flag and the national coat of arms were affirmed in this format by a special parliamentary decree of the Republic of Latvia passed on 15 June 1921.

The USSR invaded Latvia In 1940. The end divided the country divided by governance into three partitions between the Latvians, Soviets and the Germans. The Flag Of Latvia was changed to red with a hammer and sickle in the corner with Latin LPSR (Latvijas Padomju Sociālistiskā Republika) above them in gold in a serif font.
