History Of The Flag

The original Myanmar flags were originated during the Burmese Resistance. The flag that was originally used featured a red flag with a white star. Later, in 1948, the Flag Of Myanmar was changed to feature a red field with a blue canton, which contained a large white star surrounded by five smaller stars. This flag was in use until 1974. At that time, a new flag was introduced. The Myanmar National Flag was very similar in design, featuring a red field and blue canton.

A new design for the national flag was proposed on 10 November 2006 during a constitutional convention. The National Flag Of Myanmar proposed in September 2007 was included in the new constitution and was accepted with the 2008 referendum. Officials were told to lower the old flag in favor of the new one only shortly before 3:00 p.m. local time on 21 October 2010.
