The National Flag Of Oman Officially Adopted On 17th December 1970, By a Royal Decree. The flag design comprises three horizontal stripes of white, red, and green and a red bar at the hoist. At the top of the red bar sits a white national emblem of the nation. The national symbol of Oman is a traditional curved dagger in a sheath, fastened onto two crossed swords using a belt and its attachments.

The name of the Oman National Flag, dagger and two swords is derived from the insignia. The 1970 Flag of Oman was slightly modified in 1995 to give rise to the current flag. The modifications of the flag included increasing the size of the horizontal red stripe and changing the proportion of the flag.

The white colour represents the peace and prosperity of the Omani people. The red colour has been adopted from the old National Flag Of Oman and this colour symbolises the battles fought by Omanis for the eviction of foreign invaders from the country. The green colour of the flag represents the fertility and greenery of the land. The curved dagger on the national emblem is called a khanjar, and it is a symbol of pride and singularity in the country. The emblem was adopted during the middle of the eighteenth century.

In the past of Oman, the National Flag Of Oman was a plain red banner. The Flag was used by the indigenous people of the region. This banner was used as the flag early as AD 750. Sultan Qaboos introduced a new set of Oman National Flag in the Sultanate of Oman in 1970 after he successfully dethroned his father. The new ruler wanted to modernize the nation. On December 17, 1970, the Sultan introduced a new Flag Of Oman.
