The National Flag Of Rwanda was officially adopted On October 25, 2001. The Rwandan flag composed of a horizontal blue band and two smaller horizontal yellow and green bands. There is a yellow sun in the top right of the Flag Of Rwanda. The used colors in the flag are blue, green, yellow. The blue band represents happiness and peace.

The yellow band on the Rwanda National Flag symbolizes economic development, and the green band symbolizes the hope of prosperity. The sun on the flag represents enlightenment. The flag was designed by Alphonse Kirimobenecyo.

 

History Of The Flag

One of the first flags flown in Rwanda was the flag of the German East Africa Company. This National Flag Of Rwanda was later replaced with the flag used by German East Africa the first European colonial power. Rwanda did not have a colonial flag while it was part of the Belgian Empire.

Rwanda became independent from Belgium and adopted a new Rwanda National Flag in 1959, and that new flag was an adaptation of the Belgian flag that included the Pan-African colors. This Flag Of Rwanda was used until 2001 but was changed due to the genocide of 1994. The new flag was adopted on October 25, 2001, and it has remained unchanged ever since.
