The Current Version Of The Flag Of United States Of America, often referred to as the American flag Or U.S. flag was Officially Adopted On July 4, 1960. The National Flag Of United States of America consists of thirteen equal horizontal stripes of red (top and bottom) alternating with white, with a blue rectangle in the canton.

The canton bearing fifty small white five-pointed stars arranged in nine offset horizontal rows. There are some Nicknames of the flag include the Stars and Stripes, Old Glory.

There are 13 red and white stripes in the United States Of America National Flag. These 13 stripes of the flag represent the former Thirteen Colonies. On 4 July 1776, these colonies became independent of Great Britain (Declaration of Independence). There are 50 stars in the blue rectangle on the top left of the flag. These stars represent the 50 federal states.

This has been the official Flag Of United States Of America since Hawaii became a member of the union on 21 August 1959. The red color on the flag symbolizes Hardiness and Valor while White symbolizes Purity and Innocence. The Blue color represents Vigilance, Perseverance, and Justice.

 

A Brief History Of The Flag

On January 1, 1776, the Continental Army was reorganized in accordance with a Congressional resolution. This placed American forces under George Washington’s control. On that New Year’s Day, the Continental Army was laying siege to Boston, which had been taken over by the British Army. Washington ordered the hoisting of the Grand Union flag above his base at Prospect Hill.

On June 14, 1777, to establish an official Flag Of United States Of America, the Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act: “Resolved, that the flag of the United States is made of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union is thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation.”

Between 1777 and 1960, Congress passed several acts that changed the shape, design, and arrangement of the National Flag Of United States of America and allowed for additional stars and stripes to be added to reflect the admission of each new state.
