National Flag Of Iran
The Current National Flag Of Iran also known as the “Three-Coloured Flag” Was Officially Adopted On 29 July 1980. The design of the Flag Of Iran features three identical horizontal bands of green on top, white in between, and red below. The National emblem is placed in the center of the white band which represents the name of Allah. The words “Allah-o-Akbar (God is great) on the Iran National Flag is printed in white Arabic script and are repeated 22 times on the center border of the green and red band.
The Flag Of Iran Was Design By Hamid Nadimi. This flag is the reflection of the changes that Iran went through since the Islamic Revolution of 1979. It resulted in the replacement of 2,500 years of continuous Persian monarchy with the Islamic Republic under the Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the revolution. The Islamic Revolution of 1979 was supported by a wide range of Islamist organizations and student movements.

The three colors of the Iran National Flag have symbolic connotations. The green stripe stands for growth and prosperity. The white stripe stands for Friendship, reconciliation, peace, purity, a passage from the material world, Zoroaster’s favorite sacred color. The red is the color of Sacrifice, revolution, martyrdom, tinkering and dynamic thinking paradigm safeguarding the Country’s and Nation’s sovereignty, honor and integrity.
The National emblem on the center of the National Flag Of Iran comprises of four crescents and a sword. The four crescents of the emblem form the word Allah (God) and the five parts of the emblem represent the five pillars of Islam. On top of the sword, there is a tashdid that symbolizes a strong and powerful sovereign state. The tashdid is used in Arabic writing to double a letter and in this context, it means to double the strength of the sword. The tulip shape of the emblem was chosen in remembrance of the young martyrs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
History of the Iranian Flag
The first legendary National Flag Of Iran is said to be the Derafshe Kaviani. The flag was made of a long rectangular leather apron as used by national hero Kaveh the ironsmith during the reign of King Fereidoun. The Persian Homer Ferdowsi referred to this leather apron as the symbol of Iranian independence. During the Archenemies and Cyrus era, the Flag of the Persian Empire was made of up of a kinglike image, rectangular in shape, split into four equivalent triangles.
Sultan Mahmoud Ghaznavi, the founder of the first Persian dynasty after the Arab invasion who reinstated the use of symbolic expressions on the Iran National Flag. This solid rectangular black Flag of Sultan Mahmoud Ghaznavi had in its center inscribed a golden moon. During the Pahlavi reign, a royal light blue Flag with a royal emblem as below developed for the sole purpose of representing the Pahlavi family.
Soon after the triumph of the Iranian Revolution in February 1979, Ayatollah Khomeini called for the removal of all symbols of the fallen monarchy from the previous Flag Of Iran. After then, the new flag was adopted.
