Who Are The Founders of England?

Æthelstan was the first King of England (or ‘Engla lond’ as it was called back then). He inherited the kingdoms of Wessex and Mercia from his father and then conquered the Viking Kingdom of York in 927, uniting England under one crown. He also forced the
kings of scotland and Wales to swear allegiance to him, and thus occasionally used the title ‘Emperor of all Britain’ as well.
