National Dress of India | Symbols of India

India Doesn’t Have a Particular National Dress, Being a Multi-cultural Nation. Traditional Indian dress varies across the regions in its colors and styles and depends on various factors, including climate. Popular styles of dress include draped garments such as sari for women and dhoti or tailor-made shirts for men; in addition, stitched clothes such as salwar kameez for women and kurta-pajama and European-style trousers and shirts for men, are also popular.

A dhoti is from four to six feet long white or color strip of cotton. This traditional attire is mainly worn by men in villages. Saris have seen an evolution with the diverse styles it offers. The most popular types are banarasi sari, kanjivaram sari, silk sari, pochampalli sari, patola sari, etc. Worn by men, the kurta-pajama is worn across India. Be it a festive occasion or traditional ceremonies, the kurta is worn along with either the pajama or churidaar.
